Moongames Blackout

It was almost exactly 4 years ago this week that a bunch of guys sitting around drinking beer, eating pizza and playing the occasional game of Unreal Tournament or ReVolt decided that their front room LAN parties would be much better if we could somehow squeeze a few more people in. After a bit more discussion, a little more beer and a lot of help from some friends, moongames was born.

£4000+ in pizza and a small reservoir of beer later, it’s a with a fairly heavy heart that the same bunch of guys, together with some new friends that we met along the way, decided that now was the right time to call it a day and move on to new and exciting projects. The LAN party scene has changed and progressed in the last couple of years, as have we, and the gamers too, we’ve had a good run and it’s time to let someone else have a go at the “run for fun” LAN event.

So it is with immediate effect that that we are hanging up our admin shirts for the last time, we apologise for the late notice to people intending to come along to the planned event at the beginning of December, but we’d rather hang up our hats with the fond memories of the last few sell out events.

We’ve hosted nearly 1000 hours of LAN gaming in the last few years, sometimes we’ve been pulling our hair out with the stress, but usually, we’ve stuck it back on so fast that no one noticed, and we’ve frequently had a fantastic time, learnt a lot and made some good friends along the way.

Hundreds of n00bs, gamers and pr0s have passed through the moongames doors at some point or another, lots of you came back many, many times, and for that we are very grateful. On many occasions you’ve made us laugh until we cried, and the countless sleepless hours we have spent collectively have certainly been worth every second. It was definitely a "good game".

Good luck to our competition that have kept us on our toes, and to those that will hopefully fill the small gap we might leave behind us, we learnt a lot from the LAN parties that were running when we started, and we hope we’ve passed on some of that knowledge to the ones that we leave behind.

Thanks to our one and only venue, The Ise Lodge Community Centre, all the companies that have sponsored us over the last few years, everyone at Mooncomputers Limited and especially the admins, staff and helpers past and present. Many, many gamers and individuals deserve a special mention in thanks, too many to list here, but join us in the forum soon for a full list.

We are going to leave access to the forums and gallery open for a while so people can vent their anger, share some memories or wish us luck. We hope you’ll join us for a game or two sometime soon.

Good Luck, Have Fun
